One Small Action

I was just scrolling through the news when a headline caught my eye and immediately made me smile.
Target Warns of Lower Sales in 2025 - Blaming Tariffs And DEI Rollback Backlash.
I happen to come across this article right after I spent 2 hours on Etsy trying to find small businesses to order my workshop supplies from. A year ago, this would have been a target run, but ever since they rolled back their DEI initiatives, I have been trying not to shop there. I've also tried to avoid Amazon and while Walmart suddenly seems better than Target, it's still Walmart. I had two weeks to order and ship these supplies, and I was running out of options, but I was determined to at least try.
Why? Why would I care about this? I am just one person, one out of many; is my small boycott going to make any difference at all? Is it even worth it?
I ask these questions a lot these days because it feels like the world is crumbling around us and so it would be very easy to give into it. But I choose to believe that my small act of defiance will make a difference, not because I'm anything special, but because I know I'm not special. I know I'm not the only one that cares, and I want to believe, I need to believe, that others will also stand up for what they believe in whatever small way they can. Because when we do, our small seemingly invisible action can be a part of a meaningful message:
"Target CEO Brian Cornell and CCO Rick Gomez told reporters a decline in first-quarter sales was likely caused by backlash to the company's phasing out of long-term diversity, equity and inclusion goals in January" - Forbes
I want to live in a world where one voice, one defiant action, can make a difference. So, I will keep doing any small thing I can to help create the world I want to live in. What about you? What will you do this week? It may feel small. It may seem pointless. But one small action today could help make tomorrow's headline.
